Terms of Use
Last updated: 16 July 2026 · Effective: 16 July 2026
Dikke Stift is free and runs entirely in your browser. Handy, but not a guarantee: always check your text yourself before you send it on.
1. Who Dikke Stift is
Dikke Stift (dikkestift.nl) is a service of TechTovenaar, based in Arnhem, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 52142183, hereafter “the provider”.
2. What these terms cover
By using dikkestift.nl, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, don’t use the tool.
If you use the tool on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to bind that organisation to these terms.
3. What the service does
Dikke Stift is a tool that scans text for potentially sensitive information (such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, IBANs and addresses) and replaces or obscures it, so you can paste the text into an AI chatbot more safely.
- Detection is based on pattern matching and word lists, not on an AI model that understands context.
- You set how strict the tool is and whether your text is Dutch, English or both.
- All processing happens in your own browser. Nothing is uploaded.
- The scope is plain text, plus .docx and .pdf files, which are read locally in your browser.
4. Important: no guarantee of complete anonymisation
This is the heart of it, so in plain language: the tool misses things. Automatic detection works on patterns, and sensitive information doesn’t always follow patterns. A nickname, the description of a situation, a project code or an unusual spelling slips right through.
Therefore:
- You are and remain responsible for checking the result before you share, publish or paste the text anywhere.
- Always read the anonymised text yourself.
- Manually handle whatever the tool missed.
- Keep the original until you have verified the result.
Dikke Stift is a tool, not a replacement for your own judgement or for legal or compliance review.
5. Free
The service is free to use, with no account and no registration. There is no subscription, no payment and therefore no refund policy.
The provider may change, extend, limit or discontinue the service at any time. Material changes will be announced on the site in advance, where reasonably possible.
6. What you may not do
- Use the service for anything unlawful.
- Process texts you have no permission or legal basis to process.
- Scrape, automate against, or overload the service.
- Circumvent security or technical measures.
- Resell the service or offer it as your own without written permission.
Access may be blocked in case of misuse.
7. Intellectual property
The software, brand, logo, visual identity and content of Dikke Stift are the property of the provider. No rights to the source code are granted.
Your text remains yours. No rights over it are claimed. Nor could they be, since that text has never been anywhere other than your own device.
8. Availability
The aim is a reliably reachable site, but there is no uptime guarantee. Maintenance, hosting outages or other circumstances may make the site temporarily unavailable.
A nice side effect: because the tool runs in your browser, it keeps working once the page has loaded, even without an internet connection.
9. Liability
The service is provided free of charge and “as is”, without any warranty as to accuracy, completeness or fitness for a particular purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the provider is not liable for damage arising from use of the service, including:
- sensitive information that was not, or only partly, removed;
- consequential damage, lost revenue, lost savings or reputational damage;
- unavailability or malfunction of the service;
- loss of data.
This limitation does not apply in case of intent or wilful recklessness by the provider, nor to the extent that mandatory consumer law provides otherwise.
If you use the service in a business capacity, all liability of the provider is excluded to the extent permitted by law.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes will be submitted to the competent court in the district of Gelderland, the Netherlands.
If you are a consumer, this does not affect your statutory rights: you may always bring a dispute before the court of your own place of residence. EU consumers can also use the European Commission’s ODR platform: ec.europa.eu/odr.
11. Miscellaneous
If any provision of these terms is found invalid, the remaining provisions stay in force and the invalid provision will be replaced by a valid one that comes closest to its intent.
Together with the privacy policy, these terms form the entire agreement regarding the use of Dikke Stift.
